Spotify Jam Feature Now Available on Android Auto for Collaborative DJing

Spotify’s popular Jam feature has officially arrived on Android Auto, transforming car journeys into communal listening experiences. This significant update allows multiple passengers to contribute to a shared music queue directly from the vehicle’s display, effectively turning the car into a mobile DJ booth.
To join a Jam session, individuals can simply scan a QR code that appears on the Android Auto screen when music is playing. The driver retains host privileges, managing the session and having the ability to remove any participants, ensuring control over the shared playlist.
This integration marks a notable milestone, as it is the first time Spotify Jam is accessible through a car’s native infotainment interface, enhancing social interaction during travel. Previously, the feature was available primarily to desktop users.
It is important to note that initiating or hosting a Jam session requires a Spotify Premium subscription. However, free Spotify users can still participate by joining existing sessions and adding their preferred tracks to the collective playlist, broadening accessibility.
Google initially unveiled this enhanced Spotify experience for Android Auto during its I/O 2025 developer conference, highlighting its commitment to improving in-car digital interactions and entertainment. The company has also confirmed that the Jam feature will be extended to vehicles running Google’s built-in operating system at a future date, promising a consistent experience across different automotive platforms.
Beyond the collaborative music functionality, the redesigned Spotify application for Android Auto incorporates several other user-centric enhancements aimed at improving usability and convenience. A more prominently displayed “Downloads” section has been introduced to streamline the process of offline music playback.
This feature is particularly beneficial for drivers navigating areas with intermittent or poor mobile network coverage, ensuring uninterrupted music enjoyment regardless of connectivity. Furthermore, a new floating shortcut dedicated to search offers users quicker and more convenient access to Spotify’s extensive library of songs and podcasts.
These advancements are reportedly part of Spotify’s latest software update, identified as version 9. 0.
58. 596, which has recently commenced its rollout to Android users.
The update aims to make the in-car music experience more interactive, personalized, and accessible for everyone in the vehicle, fostering a shared sense of enjoyment.
